Turrrrrrrrrr Turrrrrrrrrr Turtle Dove! 21st June 2018

Seeing Turtle Dove has been a bit of a challenge! Trips to a known area (Sutton Bank) have failed miserably! Then, some images of this elusive bird appeared on social media at a small village in North Yorkshire. It had to be done, so we headed out to Harwood Dale near Scarborough and located the Mill Inn where the birds are favouring the feeders. The Mill Inn is in a lovely quiet location but is not a pub that serves meals. It is a basic drinks pub with a few snacks. Sitting in the garden is a sheer delight ( insect repellent definitely required!). So many garden, woodland and farmland birds coming to the feeders. Then, turrrrrrrrrr turrrrrrrrrr! The Turtle Doves were here! Beautiful birds that will show well if you sit quietly in the pub garden. The sound is fantastic and one I have not heard since my Norfolk days, several years ago.

A great end to the day!
