Thornwick Pool, Flamborough

Meadow Pipit

A bright and sunny morning with a cool breeze saw me wandering around Thornwick Pool, again in the hope of finding spring migrants but only seeing Swallows, Sand Martins and hearing a Chiffchaff. The water in the pool is quite high and dominated by a pair of Shelduck that did their best to see off any birds that happened to appear! Apart from the Shelduck, the pool held Mallard, Grey Lag Geese, Coot, Moorhen, one Snipe and one Teal, with several Sand Martins over. The surrounding bushes and grassland held Linnet, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Meadow Pipit, Wren, Blackbird, Song Thrush and Skylark. Somewhere, nearby, a Chiffchaff called.
