MEGA Morning at RSPB Bempton Cliffs!

Black Browed Albatross

Wednesday is not normally a good day for birding as it is market day and I assisted Heather with our stall on Bridlington Market. WhatsApp alerted me to the fact that last nights Eastern Crowned Warbler was still at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, so as soon as I was relieved my duties, I headed to the cliffs. I joined the many birders present and was soon rewarded with several excellent views of the bird, albeit brief. It was certainly too quick for any images! A call came through that someone at Filey Brigg had seen a Black Browed Albatross heading south! A shout went up and birders ran towards the cliffs in the hope of it passing by. It reminded me of a horse race (stampede!) using Shire Horses with rather portly, unfit and some elderly birders galloping towards Grandstand viewpoint (Myself included! Yes I ran and survived to see the bird!). We wont mention nearly getting stuck between the fence bars in my hurry! Nearing Grandstand, the bird was sighted and despite gasping for breath, I managed to rattle off some shots to gather record shots of an excellent bird. So Wednesday produced two MEGA LIFE TICKS!

Oh, and the bushes that the Eastern Crowned Warbler favoured, also held numerous Yellow Browed Warblers, Goldcrests, Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps.

Hi Kevin, Last time I saw one of them I was on a troop ship half way across the Bay of Biscay in 1956.
