Today is Heathers day for volunteering at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, so after dropping her off, I headed out to Scarborough. I hoped that I might touch base with the American Wigeon at Scalby Mills but the sun was in my face and the tide was out. I scoped many Common Wigeon and was joined by two birders who also had the American Wigeon in their hopes. Unfortunately, I had to leave, only to receive a text on my way home that it had been spotted! Hey-ho! While scanning the rocky shore, I managed to get my first Kingfisher of the year. I popped into Holbeck for ten minutes and managed to touch base with a rather dapper, summer plumaged Mediterranean Gull - two year ticks for today!
The sun was shining, the skies and sea were blue, Scarborough at its best!
