Draycote Water

Wheatear

Various commitments throughout the day for myself and Heather, made it difficult for me to decide on what birding to do this morning. Draycote Water was the most favourable encompassing a walk to Toft Shallows and back, hoping for some Spring migrants. Meeting Bob H in the car park, we were soon looking at Yellow Wagtails, followed by a very showy Wheatear on Farborough Bank. We eventually parted company and I carried on along Farborough Bank in advance of Bob. A Common Sandpiper posed briefly just past the spit and Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler called out from the wooded areas, together with Blackcap. Scanning the water, I came across an immature Little Gull with a possible adult, both dipping along the North Shore. An excellent Spring walk but the typical Draycote micro climates gave deceivingly challenging temperatures! Sightings list at end of post.
