Draycote Water

Wheatear

I decided to travel light this morning (leaving the 500mm at home!) as a complete circuit of Draycote Water was planned. The morning started well, just after 0700 with my first Wheatear of the year on Farborough Bank. Two Yellow Wagtails were near Farborough Point and three Little Gulls were in the centre. I was accompanied by Ian B who is quite new to birding. Although the morning was pleasant, bright and sunny, the rest of the walk was relatively quiet. In Toft, the albino Squirrel was eventually spotted, bounding through the hedges but refusing to show well! I have to say, that I was disappointed to see Redstart and Whinchat being reported, but not being communicated by the finders, thus missing out on the opportunity of two good local birds.
