Woodchat Shrike, Brandon Marsh - 2nd May 2013

The distant Woodchat Shrike

It had to happen - a day off but working overtime in the furthest North Warwickshire ambulance station at Dordon, when messages started to come in of a mega local bird, Woodchat Shrike, at Brandon Marsh! Would it stay or would it go? Finishing at 1700hrs, it was a race across the county with no news of the bird since early afternoon. However, I arrived at Brandon and was directed to where the bird was showing well, but distant. This was also my first twitch in uniform, as I had not planned this visit! It was also important to see this bird as it would be my first for Warwickshire having missed the one a couple of years ago.

Hi Kevin, good to see you made it after work, I drove past your station this morning on route to Telford! Great shots, mine were all distant!

Cheers Steve. The Shrike remained distant with images heavily cropped. I was only "guesting" at Dordon yesterday as I normally work out of Rugby.

Some excellent images Kevin, and good to meet you.

Was it a twitch ? Never been on one ;0)

Cheers Andrew and nice to meet you too. I suppose it was a twitch and the shrike was certainly worthy of this status! See you at the next one!
