Draycote Water

An unexpected window of opportunity opened this morning! We are expecting delivery of a new cooker and the time frame given was anytime between 0700 and 1900. We were unable to track the delivery due to the website "experiencing difficulties", so a phone call narrowed the delivery slot to between 1300 and 1700. This gave me the opportunity to get out to Draycote Water in the hope of locating the two long staying Black Necked Grebes. With time not on my side, I decided to walk to Rainbow Corner and back. The Black Necked Grebes were (luckily) quickly located off Hensborough Bank, though distant. The rest of my walk gave me the opportunity to photograph a close group of Pochards off the outlet. Also, two very obliging Chiffchaffs had attached themselves to a group of Long Tailed Tits in the bushes near Rainbow Corner. Two Tree Sparrows were in the bushes near the new feeding station and three Buzzards graced the skies above. A short walk with some good birds! Back home and the cooker has still not arrived!

Well done on the Black-necked Grebes Keith. You had a pretty good visit altogether. I haven't been able to get there for ages, I do miss it. You had some very nice views of the Chiffchaff and the LTTs. Could you tell me where the new feeding station is please?

Hope the new cooker has arrived by now, it's such a pain waiting for deliveries!

Thanks Jan - i'm sure you will be at Draycote again soon. The visitor centre should open again in the spring. The new feeding station is a bird table near rainbow corner as you walk towards the inlet, its on the left by the hedgerow. Cooker has arrived, installed and being "run in"!

Huge and sincere apologies Kevin, I don't think I've ever done that in my life before....I'm honestly mortified :-( I think it was because I was looking back at some of your recent interesting posts and noticed my good blogland birding friend Keith (holdingmoments) had commented. I do hope I haven't offended you!

Thanks very much for the info about the bird table and I'm so glad the cooker arrived :-)
