Draycote Water

Yellow Wagtail

Reports of four Black Necked Grebes yesterday at Draycote Water enticed me to go searching after my night shift ended at 0700 this morning. I parked at Thurlaston and walked to the end of Farborough Bank and back, part way in the company of Dave Hutton. Large flocks of Hirundines included good numbers of Sand Martins, Swallows and my first House Martin of the year. A single male Yellow Wagtail teased along Farborough Bank enabling me to eventually obtain some record shots. A sub-adult Little Gull was spotted out near the diminishing island which held a single Ruff. The hedgerows were alive to the sights and sounds of Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Blackcaps. Toft shallows held a male Goosander with the expected waterfowl. Feeling rather tired I called it a day, leaving Dave to continue on a full reservoir circuit.
