Daventry Country Park

Great Crested Grebe

The weather did not look good with rain lashing the windows, so I did not start the day with good spirits! I need not have worried, as by the time I had dropped Abigail and her friend Grace at Daventry Music Centre, the rain had stopped and the day was brightening. Arriving at the Country Park, the bird song was fantastic and my mood lifted with the breaking through of the Sun. Walking from the car park, at the start of the perimeter path, it was strewn with litter including take away wrappers, bottle and cans. Obviously the local hobbledehoys had used it overnight to party but lacking the decency to clear up. Thankfully, Saturday is when the naughty boys and girls of the community payback scheme arrive at Daventry and they did a good job in sorting it out.

The morning was now very pleasant and I soon heard the sounds of Chiffchaff (my first this year). Only the expected water and woodland birds were seen and I spent a long time scanning the Gulls in the hope of a Mediterranean Gull, but no luck! I was not even molested by the Daventry dogs which added to the pleasure of the walk!

Finally, at home, a look in the garden pond showed that the Frogs had been busy overnight!
